Puppy Class – Socialization and intro to Basic Obedience

Offered to healthy puppies under five months of age with two sets of vaccinations.

PUPPIES! PUPPIES! PUPPIES! PUPPIES!

Everybody loves cute puppies! But when they get to be big dogs and they are still jumping on us, and bullying us to play, nipping our hands, counter surfing or peeing on the carpet, we’re at our wit’s end. These dogs can end up in the shelter where they are ultimately someone else’s huge problem...or worse! Give your puppy the best chance to be a valued member of your household. Teach him how to behave among humans in a very gentle and loving way. Although it’s never too late to teach an old dog…the sooner the better. Training is easier if you don’t have to unlearn old habits. Especially with puppy training, there is no time like the present. 

We begin each class with puppy off leash playtime. It’s important for your new pup to learn proper socialization skills with other dogs as well as with humans. Then we continue with introduction to basic obedience commands – sit, down, come, leave it, etc. We will work on issues such as jumping up and pulling on the leash. We'll also discuss improper chewing, house soiling and other behavioral issues.

Level One – Basic Obedience
- Offered to non-aggressive dogs 6 months or older

New Tricks for an Old Dog? …you bet!

For dogs with no previous formal training, or just need to start out with the basics.

This course involves learning all the basic commands necessary for a well trained dog:

Sit / Down / Come / Stay / Watch / Leave it / Heel / Go to your spot / and more…

We will show you the simplest ways to teach your dog not to jump up, or pull on the leash, and demonstrate other valuable handling techniques.

Level Two – Back to Basics
- Offered as a refresher course to dogs with some basic obedience experience.

This is a condensed course offered to dogs with some knowledge of basic obedience commands, but who may not yet be ready to attend the Basic-Intermediate Obedience (Level Three). In this class we will work on all the commands learned in Level One, while focusing on specific problem areas for each dog.

Level Three – Basic-Intermediate Obedience / CGC
- Offered to dogs with a knowledge of basic obedience commands

This is also a prep class for Canine Good Citizen* Certification.

This class is for dogs who know all the basic commands, and want to go to the next step and perfect their “stays,” “recalls,” “controlled greetings,” etc. The Level Three Basic-Intermediate class prepares your dog for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. The CGC test is awarded by the AKC and open to all dogs, purebred and mix breeds. Upon graduation of this class, dogs will be
eligible for testing for the Canine Good Citizen certification. You can have the “model dog”…and the papers to prove it.

*The CGC is meant to be a measure of your dog's good manners, socialization skills, and temperament; acknowledging his good standing in the community. This class will introduce you to the 10 exercises, prepare you and your dog, and troubleshoot any problem areas needed to pass the CGC test and receive certification. A CGC certification often makes it easier to negotiate with landlords when looking for housing, or with insurance companies when buying homeowners insurance.

Petite Pals – Basic Obedience
- Offered to dogs under 30 lbs.

"Walking in a big dog's world!"

This six week basic training course is designed specifically for dogs under 30 pounds. You will train your dog in an environment designed to make learning more enjoyable and comfortable for a small dog.

Behaviors taught are Sit / Down / Come / Stay / Watch / Heel / Wait / Leave it / Targeting and more... Build confidence for your little pooch and maybe sprinkle on a few tricks to amuse your friends.
